Carnival was
a big success once again. Every year this Port Douglas event grows
bigger and bigger with organisers continuing to impress the crowds
with planned events and entertainment.
Virgin
takes over Ansett terminal
Cairns Airport has become the first in Australia to have Virgin
Blue as tenant in the previous Ansett terminal. The move is being
described as a significant event in aviation history in this country.
The Cairns routes serviced by Virgin have experienced good loads,
averaging 70 per cent, which is prompting the airline to consider
other opportunities that could utilise Cairns.
Biggest
morning tea a hit
Over 350 organisations throughout Cairns and the surrounding region
organised a big morning tea yesterday. The event is to raise much
needed money The Queensland Cancer Fund. The Regional Development
Officer, Mr Mark Bousen said that the Fund expected to raise between
$70,000 and $80,000. The morning tea has become a regular fixture
throughout Queensland with support growing each year.
Queenslanders
left to ponder the future of rugby league
Silence reined across the breadth and width of Queensland on Thursday
night as Queenslanders watched their beloved Cane Toads getting
squashed by an in form NSW Cockroaches. The end result of the 80-minute
clash was Queensland 4, NSW 32. Going into the three game series
as favourites as not helped the Queensland team one bit.
Port
Douglas buckled down for Carnival
Port Douglas was inundated with visitors from the far corners of
the region. The normally quiet and sleepy seaside village comes
alive once a year and that is at Carnival. Some estimates put the
crowds at about 40,000 people for the two-day event, which includes
a street parade, food and wine festival, entertainment and generally
a big party.
Big
demand for Australian Airlines jobs
Over 4,000 people have applied for 200 jobs with Australian Airlines.
The new airline has been inundated within 2 days of advertising
the Cairns based positions. The jobs were for cabin crew.
Local
attraction introduces a night based product
Tjaupukai Aboriginal Cultural Centre has been a leader in the Australian
Tourism industry for many years and the award wining attraction
continues to lead the way with a new night time show called Tjapukai
by night. Tjapukai co owner, Mr Don Freeman explained "the
style of the new show is deliberately designed to involve the audience
so that they take part in the performance and blend with the Aboriginal
performers during the event. Research conducted by the Australian
Tourism Industry strongly suggests that this type of contact is
what visitors are seeking in indigenous cultural experiences".
