Health
There
are many references in the Bible to health which I won't elaborate
on here. It has become quite apparent to me, as a result of all
the studies outlined in the Health section of this web site, that
if we look after our bodies and treat them as God intended, we
will very likely remain healthy until the day He decides to take
us, whenever that may be. Only He can decide when to take us home,
but it is very much our choice how healthy we remain until that
happens. It concerns me greatly when I see Christians succumbing
to diseases that they have brought on to themselves (often quite
unwittingly I might add) and then appealing to God for miracle
cures (which He in his grace sometimes hears but often doesn't).
If people spend half a lifetime abusing their bodies, they should
then feel at least a little bit contrite about asking for a miracle
cure from the Lord. I know that the Holy Spirit regularly produces
miracle cures - Benny Hinn's healing ministry is one of the best
known in the world today - but knowing what I know now I believe
that the first step is to clean up your own body yourself and
then the Lord may find it much easier to assist you.
The
New Age movement has been leading the way in recent years in its
advocacy of the whole natural health issue. It concerns me that
Christians, instead of setting an example by treating their bodies
as God intended, are now having to play catch-up. Dr George Malkmus
(an ex-Minister) and Dr Lorraine Day are examples of Christians
who are providing leadership ie this area. I believe that the
Lord would like all Christians to be leading the way in this regard,
not doing the opposite. How many Christian ministers and pastors
are preaching along these lines? Any particular church is only
as knowledgeable as the individuals within it, but when I see
Christian adults supplying such things as soft drinks and deep
fried potato chips to children on a regular basis I really wonder.
They don't seem to realise that they are setting their children
down a middle age path of diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease
quite unnecessarily. Shouldn't they be trying to teach their children
how to keep their bodies healthy instead of encouraging them to
do the opposite? The human body is an incredible work of art by
God and does a remarkable job of handling abuse but it will eventually
succumb to disease if the individual is determined enough to make
this happen.
