"Barramundi
Ambush"
By Pieter Zaadstra
"The
mullet were running the gauntlet of the creek mouth. The magnificent
Barra never failed in ambushing the mullet when the big tides turns.
Every muscle in her body tensed, ready to propel her forward for
the massive strike. At the primeval moment, her powerful steel jaws
would crush together, forcing nearly a gallon of water through her
gills and spelling a tragic end for the helpless mullet." Alex
Jullius, NAFA

Born
in the Netherlands, Pieter immigrated to Australia with his family
in 1966 when they settled at Mount Gambier in the south - east
of South Australia. His early works were reminiscent of the Old
Dutch Masters with deep sombre colours and traditional subjects
reflecting the disciplines of the School in The Hague.
During
his time in Far North Queensland, Pieter was captivated by his beautiful
surroundings in the rainforest of Kuranda, north of Cairns. His
main focus during this time was to capture the essence of tropical
North Queensland in his paintings of the rainforest, the people,
and the places he experienced. Barramundi Ambush is a unique offering
from this amazing artist and keen fishing enthusiast.
